Icelandic team in Grojec

A week to remember

HALLDÓRA, NÍNA, HILDUR OG ÞÓRA

On a gray November evening the Icelandic team landed in Warsaw and was picked up by their host families and driven to Grójec and had a great night’s sleep.

On Monday morning the team gathered at Piotr Skarga Secondary School and was shown around the school and had a welcome meeting at the assembly hall. Since this was our first meeting in person we were all a little bit shy but that was about to change. All the teams presented their country and school in a video. Next we had some homemade cakes from our Polish hosts. Since the subject of this meeting was Internet Addiction we all had prepared a presentation on the subject that we shared with the group. After lunch we went for a walk in Grójec and the evening we spent with our host families and socialized with the other students and made new friends.

The fantastic cake with the beautiful logo of the project.

MAKING NEW FRIENDS

On Tuesday we had to wake up early to explore Warsaw, we had some free time and some of us went shopping after a great lunch at Vapiano we went to a lecture at Warsaw University of Technology. The evening was spent socializing with the group.

Wednesday we departed early for another trip to Warsaw. The  Warsaw Uprising Museum was our next pit stop and we had a very interesting guided tour.  For lunch we went to a very old restaurant called Zapiecek and had some traditional dumplings. Many of us had never tasted dumplings before, but everyone found their favorite. After lunch we got some free time to explore the city and do some navigation. In the afternoon we got to the Copernicus Science Centre to explore on our own, perhaps it is more suitable for younger children but some of it was OK. The evening was spent like the previous evenings.

On Thursday morning we went to school and our first lesson was about Cybersecurity and Ransomware. After the coffee break we had a very interesting lecture on online Gaming, Smartphones and Internet addiction. After lunch it was time to hit the road again and aim for Warsaw and this time to have some fun together at a Bowling hall. The evening the group spent together and we even learned a new dance. The farewell party was held.

Friday morning, we first had a lesson on Digital Resilience and then we completed our websites and presented them to the other groups. The farewell moment was around the corner and we all were a bit sad as the day went on. We had the most beautiful cake, with the logo of the project, we had ever seen during our coffee break. After lunch we had our Evaluation. After another great day it was time to say goodbye to our new friends with a promise to keep in touch.

This sure was an amazing week and we learned a lot about Internet Addiction and how to defend ourselves while using the Internet. We also made new friends and learned about the life of teenagers in Poland. This was totally a priceless week.
